Chief Executive Officer

The Board of Directors appointed Chana Edmond-Verley as CEO and member of the Board of Directors in 2020. Edmond-Verley previously held executive and leadership positions in business and industry, philanthropy, management consulting, and the nonprofit sector with a ten-year stint at RDV Corporation, an investment and wealth management corporation.

Chana is a catalytic change-maker with a system-engineering mind and human capital development curiosity. She brings years of experience in employer engagement, consortium development, collective impact, early childhood, workforce development, and business sustainability.  Her belief in purpose driven values coupled with her expertise, and leadership in scalable, sustainable research- and data-driven change initiatives has yielded strong results across communities creating real opportunity and equitable results

Tanya Powell-May

Chief Financial Officer

As Chief Financial Officer of Vibrant Futures, Tanya Powell-May brings over 30 years of expertise in finance, accounting, and strategic financial management. With a strong background in both corporate and nonprofit sectors, she is committed to ensuring fiscal integrity, operational efficiency, and long-term financial sustainability. Tanya leads financial planning, budgeting, and compliance efforts, ensuring that Vibrant Futures continues to make a meaningful impact on communities through innovative programs and services. She has a track record of success in managing complex financial structures, overseeing multimillion-dollar budgets and implementing systems to drive growth and accountability.

Shelly Vondale

Director of Nutritional Access Programs

Shelly Vondale is the current Director of the Child and Adult Care Food Program and has worked for the agency for almost thirty years. During this time she has served in HR, education and training and in the child care resource and referral department. Shelly has a Bachelor of Social Work degree and believes that we serve no better purpose than to work towards a better future for all children.

Tonya Clevenger

Tonya Clevenger

Education Manager

Tonya Clevenger leads the Education Department and manages its programs by supervising, coordinating, monitoring quality and training professionals who care for young children. Tonya has 30+ years’ experience in the field of early childhood education. She has extensive experience in curriculum development and providing onsite coaching and quality improvement support for Early Care and Education (ECE) professionals with first-hand experience as a child care business owner.  Tonya has earned a BA Degree in Education from Calvin University and is currently working toward a MA degree in ECE.  Throughout her 19+ years at our organization she has attended and led many training courses with participants from many types of ECE programs. Tonya is currently the elected representative of the Western Region of the Michigan Association of the Education of Young Children (MiAEYC); and serves as an Observer for the National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC) Accreditation.

Barbara Berens

Sr. Special Projects Manager

 

Barbara has extensive experience in grant writing, data collection and reporting. Her attention to detail and deadlines guides the agency as the childcare sector continues to evolve with new opportunities. Throughout her 15+ years experience at Vibrant Futures, she has supported the development of new programs and program expansions. Barbara provides organizational support of the regional childcare project and works directly on the FCCN and TriShare programs at Vibrant Futures.
